Held In the Unravelling
of who she is (I am) becoming.
The kite unravels. Untangling itself, tugging upward on the wind’s breath. There is a reshaping— turning, tossing, tethering— away from the ordinary, into the winds of the unknown. It shifts, deliberately, from one state to the next, as it becomes. Letting go, but secured — something new. A part - string, the other part kite. The unfurling of apart, yet connected, to soar from here to there. Catching the wind. Fluttering in motion. Lifting. Falling. Rising again. Motherhood is this. Unravelling. One part woman; other part mama. Beginning as one, released to become the other. Three times over, I have become her— familiar, yet uncertain, as the wind takes my story. The loops in the air, heavy with expectation and wait. To let go is constantly becoming— the motherhood story, from beginning to forever. Real and uncertain, like the tail of a kite— a dance that soars and dips. There she is, the becomer— the one in transformation at every turn, moving through seasons of what was, and is. Her feet are now planted at the end of the line. Staying steady amongst the unknown winds— rising highs, weeping lows. Tears of the unseen, like the breeze. She is the one who simply holds— hope in hand and underfoot. The discomfort of becoming - in this tension between. The stretch between her hands, and the sway of process— change, and invisible currents— moves with her. She has let go, many times over. Her becoming, though, remains steady— in wind shifts, in unknown paths. She is carried forward, yet the grounding holds with her. Familiar. Wild. New. It all holds the space to become. Become. Becoming. Becomer. Motherhood - all tied together as wisps of a kite— change, transformation, and process. — Words by Vanessa Leaver
